Writers Group
Red Room Writers Group is comprised (at present) of the writers with whom we have the closest working relationship and with whom we are in constant dialogue about ideas for commission.
The Red Room has always been important to writers because it enables them to
take risks that they cannot take elsewhere. These may be political or emotional
risks or risks involving form or process.
We use our writers group to forum ideas. Writers are often isolated
from the process of theatre-making unless they have a show in production, yet
their perspectives are often far more radical theatrically than the "literary"
managers who develop their work. We do not believe that theatre is a literary
medium and we want to offer writers greater access to the range of theatrical
techniques and processes that exist. There are risks people wish to take
with their writing. For writers with a proven track record, this opportunity
is perhaps even more precious than those writers starting out, since reputation
makes public risk-taking even more difficult.
